It's Dynamic

source
I wanted to take a little moment to remind everyone that caring for your baby is a dynamic situation. By that I mean that you always need to be on the lookout for changing things--like when they are ready to stop swaddling or ready to be awake longer. You can't reach a certain point and kick back and say, "my work is done!" You need to be analyzing the situation and adapting and adjusting the schedule for your baby's current needs.

Sometimes you will have to do trial and error again. Don't feel bad when you have to spend time figuring out the quirks--all of us have to do it, and it is new with each child. My two children have been very different.

Don't get discouraged by the idea of a dynamic situation--I have found it gets easier to troubleshoot as they get older. There is always something with parenting. Why is my baby waking early from naps? Why is my 18 month old suddenly so disobedient? Why is my 2 year old throwing tantrums? Just be ready to work on it. With Babywise, you have the tools to fix the problems!

Hello. I have a question with moving from 3-3 1/2-4 hour schedules. What I don't understand is, how to stick to a schedule when you change it later on down the road? My son can't even sleep through a 3-hour schedule yet due to sleep problems, but sometimes he does sleep through a 3.5 to 4 hr. cycle, and I usually let him because he misses so much sleep from poor napping. Later on, if I ever do stretch out to 3 1/2-4 hours, will I just have to stay home to establish a new schedule? I know I'm not there yet, but just want to be prepared.
Your site has been truly helpful to me. Thank you very much - it is the ONLY babywise help site that I could find. Everywhere else i look seems to look down on babywise...

In my experience, when we moved to a four hour schedule, it was quite smooth and easy. It is also easy to go home for naps because you have a longer period to be gone for them.

My daugter turned 7 months old today, and we have followed Babywise since birth. She is a chunk...22 lbs...and eats 6 ounces every three hours during the day, and baby food twice a day. She is asleep by 8-8:30 and will sleep until I wake her the next morning. I feel like she is meeting the criteria for being "ready" for a 4 hours shedule, except for one thing. She acts like she is starving by the time 3 hours have passed. (She seems completely satisfied with the 6 ounces at each feed). Should I try adding another ounce to her bottles to help her stay full longer...or do you think this means she isn't ready to change? Thanks!!

Shugs, I would try another ounce or two and see what happens. Maybe even move to solids three times a day instead of two. Good luck!
