Best Things...4 Month Old

This post may contain affiliate links.
I really enjoy the four month old. Right now, for me, my children are all at really fun ages. I have the conversation of the four year old, the wonder of the two year old, and the sweetness of the four month old. We could freeze time and I would be happy :). Here are my top ten favorite things about four months old.

  1. Laughter: I love the laughs of the four month old. The four month wants to laugh, you want her to laugh...what a great combination.
  2. Pleased: The four month old shows great pleasure with herself when she does something she wanted to do.
  3. Pleasing: The four month old wants to please you. When you smile, laugh, clap, or cheer over something she has done, she gets that pleased look on her face.
  4. Hand Control: The four month old starts to hold and manipulate toys. It is fun to watch her go through this process. She starts by holding something and trying to get her head to the toy. As she starts moving the hand to the head, she starts off rather clumsy, but by the end of the month she is pretty good at getting the toy to her mouth (though still has room for improvement).
  5. Conversationalist: The four month old likes to hear herself "talk." I love to hear her talk, so it is a good relationship. I will mimic her speech, which again brings the pleased look to her face. She then continues on her talking.
  6. Aware of Power: The four month old is starting to grasp the power she has over you. She practices her different vocal abilities to see what you do in return. It is fun to watch her process the information.
  7. Content: I know this is in my three month old post, but the four month old is still content, and that is so precious it is worthy of being mentioned twice! lol
  8. Waking Happy: Not all four month olds will do this, but most are starting to wake up happy sometimes. This is great--it helps you immensely in problem solving early waking from naps.
  9. Toys: The four month old loves to play with toys. This is really exciting for parents--especially first time parents. The baby is starting to do all of those things you dreamed about while you were waiting for your baby to arrive.
  10. Cuddly: Most four month olds will still be happy to sit and cuddle with whomever is holding her. This does vary from baby to baby; Brayden certainly didn't want to hold still as a four month old. But Kaitlyn did. McKenna will. All children are different :)

Oh Val, what a wonderful post!! I can't wait til Oliver catches up and WILLINGLY gives us the giggles we so desperately seek! You should see Levi and I making fools of ourselves to solicit one small giggle. It'd make you laugh til you cried! lol

Love this post, yet I am a bit jealous. My 4 month old is NOT a cuddler-- he LOVES to move! Also, he is only content for moments, which sometimes drives me up the wall (I posted in the yahoo group with a question on this actually). The laughter though is priceless!

My daughter just turned 4 months last Friday, so our little ones are about a month apart. I love knowing what i have to look forward to with these posts! One of my favorite things (and this comes from my ocd-ness) is that her routine is SO predictable now. She has really hit a stride of "getting it" so to speak. This is after recouping from 3 weeks of the 45 min intruder. She's a great sleeper now (knock on wood!). I also LOVE that Rhyan wakes up happy. From EVERY nap and in the morning. There are RARE exceptions. And yes, i know I'm blessed and that most babies don't do this quite yet. She started at 3 months waking happy (again, except for the intruder interruption) :-). And the laughs... I've never experience joy the way i do when i hear her giggle. Over nothing! Its pure and innocent and it absolutely fills my heart with joy. Can you tell I'm a first time mommy?? I love it!

My daughter turns 4 mos this week and I am loving how she is now so much! She hasn't quite given us a full out laugh, but is a great squealer :) She has been waking up happy for some time now - my husband and I fight to be the one to get her up! It's the going to bed happy that we've had to work on - but finally she does not really cry for naps anymore. I really believe following BW has helped her be so happy - everyone we meet comments on how happy and smiley she is. What a joy.

My son is also 4 months, and I love all the things you mentioned, but my favorite has to be the open-mouth kisses and his obvious pleasure afterwards. Just makes my heart melt! :)

Four months started off a bit rough but I have to say now that it is behind us (as of last week) that it really turned out to be a great month. While rolling over was a fun milestone it did cause some sleeping issues. Our last week as a four month old my W started to be able to sit up (only seconds by himself but better with the Boppy pillow). This has been lots of fun for playtime. He has become quite the cuddler and is now sucking his thumb which I love!

Team OSM, lol! That is funny how hard parents work to get a laugh out of their kids :)

Linds, sounds like your baby is like Brayden. He didn't cuddle and he never held still.

Kelly, parenting does bring great joy :) I love the predictability, too. And waking happy is lovely.

Glad I can help push you along Kristi ;)

Anna, four months starts rough for a lot of people. And I love the thumb sucking too! I think it is so cute for some reason.
