McKenna Baby Summary: Week 28

Schedule and routine for a 27-28 week old newborn baby. Get info on this baby’s daily schedule and routine for each day and know how to structure your baby’s day.

28 week old McKenna being held by her dad

This week had some downs. McKenna started acting strange–it reminded me of the four month period where she was upset over basically nothing. I visited the Wonder Weeks website and found that she was in a developmental leap time period, which is what I suspected. By the end of the week, she was back to her old self.

NURSING

Nursing is still going well with no problems.

NIGHTTIME SLEEP

Nighttime sleep was still good with no problems. I still wake her each morning.

SOLIDS

Again, I didn’t start any new foods for McKenna this week.

DREAMFEED

This week, we did the dreamfeed at 10 PM.

FOUR HOUR SCHEDULE

Things are still going well.

ROLLING

One morning, when I went to get McKenna up, she was asleep on her tummy. This was quite exciting for me because I knew that she was definitely at the point where she could roll around and be happy in any position. I don’t worry about getting any rolling disruptions in the future. Next will just be crawling or sitting up 🙂

VOCAL

McKenna was very fond of her voice this week. She practiced all sorts of sounds, and one day Kaitlyn giggled and commented about McKenna’s “singing.”

DOCTOR

We had a doctor visit this week (her 6 month checkup). She is growing well. She is now in the 31 percentile for weight and 30 percentile for height. She was born in the 14th percentile for weight, so she has done well over time. She is also in the normal range for my children (20-50).

FUSSY EVENINGS

As I mentioned above, McKenna had some fussy evenings. It was strange. I knew she was having teething pains (but no teeth yet). She also was just getting over a cold. But both of these things hadn’t disrupted her in the past. So that is what led me to the Wonder Weeks website. By the end of the week, she was over it.

WAKETIME

Her waketime length changed this week, as will be shown in our schedule below.

TIME CHANGE PREP

I started moving her schedule in preparation for the time change. I like to move things slowly. I know some prefer to just tackle it all at once, but I am a slow type of gal. Our schedule is behind by 15 minutes because of this.

OUR SCHEDULE

8:15 AM–wake, nurse, eat 2-3 T prunes and 1 T peaches mixed with 3 T oatmeal
9:20 AM–nap
12:15 AM–wake, nurse, eat about 4 T green veggies and 4 T banana
2:00 PM–nap
4:30 PM–wake, nurse, eat about 4 T yellow/orange veggie, 4 T peaches or pears, and then 1-2 T oatmeal
6:00-6:30 PM–nap
7:45 PM–wake, nurse, change into PJs, story, bed
