My four month old's favorite right now is "Cat's Colors." It has really colorful pictures and the faces of the cats are really big, so he likes it. :)
Goodnight Moon is one of my very favorites- and has been my daughter's favorite so far. I love all Eric Carle's books too- they make board books now and can be found most anywhere. Short sentences and very colorful. Zoe's (she's 15 months now) favorites currently are "Daddy's Hugs" by Karen Katz (I think she doesn't Mommy's Hugs too) and "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle
Sorry, wrote that wrong. Karen Katz also DOES do "Mommy's Hugs". :)
"Barnyard Dance" and "Pajama Time" by Sandra Boynton were both big hits for us. Also, we have a book called "God Must Really Love Numbers" by Rondi DeBoer. It's a great little book.
Pat the Bunny is a favorite of mine and the Man Cub loves it.
Peek-a-boo KissesGood Night Moon
Brayden's favorite is Moo Baa La La La by Sandra Boynton. I LOVE all of her books though. They have cute pictures, all rhyme and are quick reads, which tend to be more popular. Moo, Baa La La La seriously can take Brayden from screaming to silent in 0.2 seconds!
Rainbow Rob is a great touch and feel book that also discusses colors. My one year old loves it!Mem Fox is a great author, and probably my favorite book by her is Where is the Green Sheep? I don't know that it's in board book form, so I'm not sure if it's what you are looking for for a young baby, but the language is beautiful and uses lots of descriptive words. My daughter also loves Peek-A-Boo I Love You. I think you've written about it on here before, but we love Peek-A-Zoo.And I have to echo above - we love Pajama Time, too!I'll stop now....I could go on forever! (former teacher here!)
"Sheep in a Jeep"It was given to us as a gift. It rhymes and is hilarious! All I have to say is "Beep Beep" and Claire (7m) smiles the biggest smile. I promise you'll LOVE it!
Mary's personal favorite is Good Night Butterflies. But my favorite for her is called God Gave Us You.
Forgot to mention. If you're looking for something that talks about Jesus and is not cheesy, check out the Jesus Storybook Bible. It is absolutely AWESOME! I get it for my friends who are pregnant and they all love it.We gave it to Mary as her first bible:)
"I'm Thankful Each Day" P. K. HallinanIt's a great book about all the things we have to be thankful for. It's a great way to teach children to see God though everyday life and nature. Love his books. They are board books, which is great for the little ones and affordable too! Love that all of the words read like a poem. It's easy on the ears and eyes.
Baby Cakes by Karma Wilson- very cute!
"No, No Noah" is one of Adelaide's favorites right now - she's 9 months old. We also love "Pat the Bunny," which is a great classic book.
My daughter Claire loves "I Know A Rhino" by Charles Fuge.
The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown is a great book. We love reading it to our 6 month old daughter. We have the large board book and the small one so we can keep one at home and one in our diaper bag for long car rides. We also love all of Eric Carle's books. He does stories for all ages and the pictures are so bright and fantastic for children. One of Olivia's favorites right now is, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?"Good luck!
We have the "Mommy Hugs" book, and my boys like it so much, they pull it off the shelf and drag it to me to read to them. I bought them a Halloween one by Karen Katz, and it is good too.We LOVE Sandra Boyton. I think we have about 15 or more of her books because they are so great. Funny, rhyming stories with cute, funny pictures. We read Pajama Time every night before bed.We also have a book of nursery rhymes that my babies love so much. They want to read it every day! It is called "Nursery Rhymes, well-loved verses to share," and it is illustrated by Susie Lacome. The pages are embossed, so they are fun for little hands to feel, and it ties closed with a ribbon. It's a great book!
My daughter loves a Night Night Prayer by Amy Parker and The Shape of Me and Other Stuff by Dr. Seuss.
My mum gave me a really great book called "God Gave Us You" when we were expecting our little girl. There is also another version called "God Gave Us Two." Very sweet. Made me cry the first few times I read it! I also love Max Lucado's "You are Special."

Also, Kohls Department Store features an author every couple of months or so and you can get several of their books in hardback for $5 each, with the proceeds going to help needy kids. They also sell stuffed animals that go with each book for $5 each. As a primary grades teacher, I LOVE this- all the books are by quality authors and the animals are cute too. GREAT gifts for kids for birthdays, holidays, etc.
"I Love You Through and Through" It is precious and both of my kids love it!http://www.amazon.com/I-Love-You-Through/dp/0439673631/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1255015394&sr=8-1
My favorite baby book is Twinkle, Twinkle by amazing baby. My kids (11 months and 2yrs) love it! In fact, the 11 month old is often found flipping through the pages all by himself!
Peek-A-Boo by Tim Bugbird - Baby Animals. This has been Sophia's favorite! It is very sturdy with cute pics! It is touch and feel as well as lift the flap. I got it at Sam's Club. They have great childrens books there all the time. Check it out!Amy
I just want to say thank you for asking this question and thanks to everyone who has responded. I'm also looking for a few new books for my little boy (18 mo) and there are some excellent ideas here. Thanks to everyone!
That's not my puppy (and many other That's not My...).Night-Night StoriesSing along Nursery RhymesThese are Usborne books and can be found at www.funwithusborne.com.
Pajama Time!! (and I could read this one over and over too). Goodnight Moon. DS loves Mom Pie (though I just can't understant why). One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish (he has it memorized and we laugh when lines come up during everyday life)
As mentioned over and over above, Sandra Boynton books are wonderful. We especially love Snuggle Puppy and Pajama Time."I love you through and through" is also a big fave for us.
My 1 year old loves Rainbow Rob (a touch and feel book that teaches colors). It has been his favorite book for quite a while! He also really enjoys several of Karen Katz's books. Personally, I love Sandra Boynton's books, but my son hasn't been impressed with them yet!
Zoe's favorite books are in Spanish but one is available in English too. It's "Where's Elmo?" (especially b/c the last character is Zoe, lol) but the book is fabric and the "flaps" have different textures (the birds are her fave--they crinkle). http://bit.ly/pF1PS The other is ¿Cómo estás pequeño panda? and unfortunately not available in English. She likes books with pandas (like Usborne's This Isn't My Bear) b/c of the contrast in black/white, I think.
Some of our favorite books-I Kissed the Baby by Mary Murphy (great for newborns with its black/white pictures)Counting Kisses by Karen Katz (a fun bedtime book)Time for Bed by Mem FoxGoodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brownmy 9 month old also really likes looking at Roger Priddy or Tom Arma board books. I review all the books we read on our blog and am enjoying seeing the recommendations. Happy reading!
a great one is "Let Me Hold You Longer" so sad! I can't remember the author though!Chicka Chicka is my son's favorite (he's 7 months) as well as: "The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear" "Who Sank The Boat?" and any touch and feel board book!
My son has always liked "The Very Hungry Caterpillar"
I love the DK publishing FIRST books and touch and feel flash cards.http://www.amazon.com/First-Touch-Feel-Picture-Cards/dp/0756615186/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1255489306&sr=8-2
"How do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight"A friend gave it to us when my son was born b/c her twins loved it. My son loves it too. and the one she gave us came with a little stuffed dinosaur that he chews on (6 months and EVERYTHING goes in his mouth) while we read it. i'll be getting more of the "Dinosaur" books for his stocking!
Thank you everyone! What a great list! We have some of them, we have borrowed some from the library, and others we haven't ever looked at. I will add the ones we don't have to our wish list and build up over time. Thanks for all of your comments!
