NURSING
Things are still good in the nursing department.
SLEEPING
McKenna slept well all week long. She is getting even better about moving around now that she is in footed pajamas instead of the sleep sack. When she is awake and playing, she will roll to get from point A to point B, which I find quite funny.
SOLIDS
I didn't introduce any new foods this week. I did make a bunch of prunes, though. Prunes are not as easy as I thought they would be. I first tried them in my inexpensive little mini-mixer, but it didn't do a good job of mixing it up, so I moved on to the Cuisinart. It does a great job (but is a lot more of a clean-up, so I avoid using it when I can). I also didn't add enough water, which I didn't realize until they didn't freeze solid. Despite that, she likes them, and making them is a lot cheaper than buying them.
FINGER FOODS
She is getting better and better about eating finger foods. She does a nice chewing motion. My head is telling me to let her have more real finger foods (as opposed to the kind that disolve by Gerber), but I am just cautious. I think once she is 8 months old, I will be a little more daring. 8 months just sounds older. But in my head, she is still 6 months old :).
SIPPY CUP
I haven't been great about being consistent with the sippy cup with her. This week, I started giving it each day, and she got really good at it! I also used a different cup because I couldn't find the one I usually use. I used an Avent Sippy Cup

Hi there--
I HIGHLY recommend the KitchenAid immersion blender. I use it for everything--all of my 7 mos. old's solids; smoothies for us; everything. It works great on prunes, too. I find that if I steep the prunes in boiling water for a few minutes, and then blend (with water) they turn out nice and smooth (though you can leave some texture if you want) and the clean up is easy easy! Happy Thanksgiving!
Do you just use the dried prunes in the produce section? I want to make prunes, but I'm not sure how or if I should use fresh prunes, but the grocery store didn't have them.
Hi, I was wondering what your thoughts would be in this situation. I have a baby boy, Jack, who is 1 week younger than McKenna. He has been having playpen time for the past month and doing great with it as long as I am out of sight and earshot. This week, he has REALLY had a hard time with independent playtime in the playpen. We've gotten up to 20-30 minutes. As I write this he is going back and forth between playing and screaming for me...his mad scream. :) I don't want to do anything to harm him by not answering his cries, but I do think he needs to know it's okay to play alone, even though he is going through separation anxiety. I don't want to make him a child who has to constantly be entertained or with one of us. Any thoughts on this? I would appreciate it!
I had the same problem when I made prunes - they didn't freeze solid! So I kept them in the ice cube tray in the freezer and scooped them out when needed.
Hey Valerie,
I was wondering about the prunes also. What kind did
you buy to make the purée? Dried? Individually wrapped. I want to make some but not sure how.
Thanks for your help. :)
Thanks Runlikemama!
Culbertsons,
I found my prunes in the baking section of my grocery store.
Sarah,
McKenna went through this recently, also. I suggest you take your length down to five to ten minutes, but continue to do it. He should get better over time. McKenna got better in a few days.
Rachel, that is what I have been doing, too. I eventually scooped out the prunes into plastic babyfood containers and put those in freezer bags.
Shelton, yes, all prunes are dried (dried plums). The ones I got were not individually wrapped. They were all in a container. You should find them by the chocolate chips, nuts, and raisins in your grocery store.
