Toy Review: Little People

This post may contain affiliate links.
Here is a list of Little People toys we have and my thoughts on them. You will find that I just like Little People stuff :) Little People toys are great for imaginative play. You can also use them for role playing with your child. You can teach your child appropriate behavior and actions in various settings through using these toys.

Little People Surprise Sounds Fun Park

Ages: 18 months-5 years

Review: This is not my favorite Little People toy that we have. The kids enjoy it, but they play with it in waves it seems. The planes can be frustrating for younger children because it is difficult to get moving on their own. They really enjoy the ramp for the clown to drive down.

Buy Again?: We got this toy at a garage sale for $3 dollars. It was definitely worth $3. I don't know if I would spend full retail price on it, though. It wouldn't be in my top 5 list of Little People toys.

Little People Garage

Age Range: 12 months-5 years

Review: This is a big hit with both Brayden and Kaitlyn. They have always loved playing with the garage.

Buy Again?: Definitely. This is on my top 5 favorite Little People toys. There are two versions floating around out there. Ours is the first one listed, but when I was growing up, mine was like the second. Both are fun.

Little People Airport

Age Range: I am not sure what Fisher-Price's age range is on this. Probably about 12-18 months and up.

Review: This is a very fun toy. They will drive cars around it. This is a well-used toy.

Buy Again?: Yes. Absolutely. Here is the problem. It is hard to find. They aren't made anymore. We bought ours used off of either ebay or amazon (I can't remember now). This is in my top five favorite Little People Toys.

Little People Animal Sounds Farm

Age Range: 12 months to five years

Review: I love this toy. This is one of Kaitlyn's favorites. She is a big animal lover.

Buy Again?: Definitely. Again, a top five favorite of mine (I hope I don't run out of top fives!)

Little People Noah's Ark

Age Range: 12 months and up

Review: This is another fun one, especially if your child is an animal lover. It also appeals to those who love trucks, boats, etc. since it is a boat. It has fun little doors to take the animals in and out and you can also remove the entire top. It can also be used to share the scripture story of Noah.

Buy Again?: Yes. This is in the top ten favorite :)

Little People Playground

Age Range: 2-5

Review: The kids have fun with this. They like to get the mommy and kids from the house (coming below) and push on the swings and play on the playground.

Buy Again?: Yes, but don't pay too much for it. There are some good prices on Amazon, but there are some ridiculous prices, also ($119 dollars is TOO MUCH!).

Rescue Rig (Fire Truck)

Age Range: 2-5 years

Review: This is a great one, especially if you have a child who likes fire engines. Kaitlyn doesn't really care about this toy, but Brayden loves it.

Buy Again?: Definitely for Brayden.

Lil' Movers Airplane

Age Range: 1-4 years

Review: This is a cute toy and has its merits, but it is not a favorite of the children. It is too large to be able to hold it with one hand and fly it around the room, which I think is the reason it doesn't get played with as much.

Buy Again?: I don't think I would get this one again if I had it to do over again. If your child has a special love for planes, you might try it, but if that is the case, I would go for the airport first.

Camping Adventure

Age Range: 2-5 years

Review: This is one of our absolute favorites. It is definitely in our top five (am I out of top 5 yet?). Both children just love this. They have fun hooking the car up to the camper and pulling it. It comes with sleeping bags.

Buy Again?: Definitely. This would be one of my first recommendations for little people toys.

Pet Salon

Age Range: 2-5 years

Review: This is a favorite of Kaitlyn's. You can tell she really likes animals, right? Brayden also enjoys playing with this.

Buy Again?: Yes.

Princess Coach

Age Range: 2-5 years (but we got it for Kaitlyn at 18 months)

Review: Kaitlyn really enjoys this toy. She loves horses and it also comes with a pic-nic basket that she has a great love for--strange but true.

Buy Again?: Yes. It is a fun, small little people toy.

Little People House

Age Range: 2-5

Review: This is one of the favorites of the children. Here is the problem. We have the Sweet Sounds Home, which is an older model, but obviously a popular one. It now sells for at best $100 it seems. They have replaced it, but I haven't used those so I can't tell you if they are good or not. One does rate really well on Amazon; the other doesn't have ratings yet.

Buy Again?: I would definitely buy the one we have for the price we paid, but I can't speak for the ones that are out right now. I might actually get the Fisher-Price My First Dollhouse instead of one of those...but I haven't spent time thinking it over :) Houses

CONCLUSION
All of these toys are good. I noticed that all of them rated well on Amazon. They are good toys. The trick is to find toys that meet the interests of your child. If your child likes animals, get the animal toys. If your child likes trucks, get those. Here is a rundown of my favorites for each child and for all children:

Brayden: listed in order of favorites

  1. Airport
  2. Rescue Rig
  3. Garage

Kaitlyn: listed in order of favorites

  1. House
  2. Pet Salon
  3. Princess Coach

Both Children: listed in order of favorites

  1. Camping Adventure
  2. Barn
  3. Noah's Ark
  4. Playground

Not My Favorite:

  1. Lil' Movers Airplane

Undecided:

  1. Amusement park

I love Little People toys...thanks for the reviews:) I thought this info might be helpful to someone out there. If you to go Little People's website, and click on online exclusives, you can purchase a really cool play mat for only $4.99 with a UPC code from a Little People's toy! I'm getting one for my son and our nephew this year. What a steal...it even includes shipping and handling!

Thanks so much, this is super helpful with the holidays approaching :) Just wanted to add that my son absolutely LOVES the little people school bus. It's definitely in his top 5 favorite toys ever :) We probably got it when he was 12 months old and he's 22 months now. He still plays with this a lot :)

I have an Animal Sounds Farm that I bought used and I just saw this old recall from 2003: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml03/03111.html
I'm sure a brand-new version would not have the same problem, but I bet mine does. I checked the two screws and they seem really secure, but now I don't want my younger child playing with it for a while. So buy this one new, would be my recommendation.

Thanks for all the ideas, Valerie and all the commenters!

Jenn, thanks for that! That looks great!

Linds, I think that is a great idea. I want to get that, too, so the kids can have a nativity set they can play with.

Thanks Laura! We have a playskool bus that my great aunt got, so we obviously don't need the little people one. I am glad to know it is a good one!

Thanks Kristy!

I just read your reviews of Little People. We love them too! Target sells the airport around Christmas time for about $39, but they put it on sale for $19. It was in their add either this week or last.

Thanks Shanon! That is good for moms to know!

Just wanted to leave a comment about a Little People toy we just got for my daughter's first birthday. It is a Music Parade Ride On truck that plays music. Adelaide loves it, her feet couldn't quite reach the ground when she got it a couple of weeks ago, so we would just push her around, but now she can reach the ground and move it herself. It has become her favorite toy. It also has two functions to play music like a piano, or to play songs when you push the buttons. On Amazon it is $60, which is a little pricey, but depending on how long she likes it, it may be worth the investment. A great gift if you are wanting to bless someone!
