Hello! I am desperate!!!! PLEASE help me as soon as you can!!My daughter will be 8 months old next week and I have yet to be able to get her on consistent predictable daily schedule. We have the routine down, but NOT a schedule and I am SO frustrated!! I just want her to eat/sleep at the same time every day! It would make life so much easier and I could better plan outtings if I knew she napped at same time every day! But I just CANNOT get there!I want her to wake up at 7:30 (actually 8 would be even better!) but she wakes up anywhere from 7 to 7:30am & typically 7:15. First feeding is 7:30. She had been on a 3.5-4 feeding schedule but I moved her to a 4 hour schedule because she wasn't eating well towards the end of day because her feedings were at (around) 7:30, 11:00, 3:00, 6:30, 8pm feeding schedule (bedtime is 8:30). This week I decided to move to 4 hour feeding schedule. 7:30, 11:30, 3:30, 7:00 with another feeding to top her off at 8pm before bed. She also has solids 3x/day.I can't get the eat/wake/sleep routine to fit nicely into four hours!!! For example: Today she was up at 7am. She ate at 7:30. By 9 she was ready for nap #1. She only slept an hour. She woke up happy though BUT there was still 1.5 hours until the next feeding at 11:30. Fed her at 11:30 and by noon she was ready for nap #2. Slept from 12:20 - 1:40 & woke up happy but wasn't happy for long, but once again WAY early for the next feeding at 3:30. Fed her at 3:30 and laid her down at 4:30 for nap #3. Bed time is at 8:30. I know she will need another (cat)nap before bedtime. FOUR naps at 8 months old???? ANY SUGGESTIONS WELCOME FROM ANYONE (I know it takes about 3 weeks to get a reply, so anyone reading this with suggestions please help! I am going insane!)
Elaine,Would it work to just move her bedtime up? If you feed her at 7:30, 11;30, 3:30, and then again at 7:30 (she might take more then at 7 and it could last her), could she just go down for the night earlier, rather then take a fourth nap? That way she might even sleep in a little bit later for you in the morning. I have read and expierienced that bedtime between 6-8pm is best for babies at this age.Just an idea!
Elaine- Just me 2cents...I agree with moving her bedtime up. 8:30 seems too late for almost 8mths. My DD is 8.5mths and she can barely hang on until 7pm. I think that if you do move her bedtime she may pull 12hrs at night and therefore sleep longer during the day. It will get rid of the 4th nap also. 3 naps is still typical of alot of BW babies at 8mths, but 4 is too much and may be disturbing her sleep during the day too. Starting her day at a consistent time with get her on a eat/wake/sleep rhythmn. 8am wakings may come later on, but if she is waking consistently b/t 7-7:30, I would go right to her and start her day. That way you are not waiting too long from first waking to feed her and it will keep her on a good routine. Also, you may want to join the BW Yahoo group Valerie lists at the top of the blog title. It is a wonderful group that gives great advice, I know they can share some with you!
Dave and Elaine,I completely agree with the other two ladies. I would move bedtime up.I would also start the day when she is getting up consistently. 8 is nice, but rare. Most babies wake in the 7 AM hour. They have their natural waketime. Brayden has always been a 7-7:15 wake up person, and there is nothing I have ever been able to do to consistently push that back.
