6 month old Brinley

This is a summary for Brinley’s 27th week–she was 26 weeks old. She turned 6 months old this week!

NURSING

Brinley went to four nursings this week. Initially, doing the five with squeezing the last three in together was working fine, but then she started not really wanting to eat for her last feeding of the day, and I want her to eat for her last feeding. So this is what we do:

7:30 NURSE and SOLIDS

11:30 NURSE and SOLIDS

3:30 NURSE

5:30-6:00 SOLIDS

7:30 NURSE

NURSING IN A NEW ENVIRONMENT

This week, we went to my parents’ at lunchtime one day. We got her up from her morning nap and just headed over.

She absolutely refused to nurse when we got there–she was too interested in the surroundings. I wished I had fed her before we left the house. She has eaten there before with no issues, but she a no-go this time. She did after about an hour, though.

WONDER WEEK

Wonder week was gone this week. She was happy and content and back to her normal self.

SOLIDS

This week, we introduced peaches to Brinley. I could have introduced them earlier, but when I made them last fall, I didn’t think about the need to cook them for babies younger than 6 months. I only blanched and peeled them, so I waited until she was 6 months old.

SWADDLE WEANING

We left her arm out for nighttime this week. She did great! No issues. We are moving along.

SLEEP

On that note, naps and night are going well.

  1. First time to comment, but I've been reading since I gave birth… thank you, thank you for spending so much time on this blog to share your wisdom and experience! I have a 20 week old little girl who seems to be exactly on Brinley's current schedule except that she isn't taking any solids yet. I'm hoping to wait until 6 months since she hasn't shown any interest and is sleeping so well. Anyway, I was wondering if I need to keep her on 5 feedings until I introduce solids? Or if I could drop one and maybe move her last feeding closer to 7? But then after her 3:45 feeding she would be on a "eat, wake, sleep, wake, eat, bed" routine. Is that a no-no to get off of the EWS cycle? She seems to be falling asleep during her last feeding {even though she's still eating}. I think she might be ready for bed a little sooner, but if I move up the last feeding without dropping the 6pm feeding then the 2 feedings would only be an hour apart… and it takes her almost 30 minutes at each feeding.Any thoughts/suggestions?Hope this wasn't too long or confusing!

  2. Hihi!I am curious when you nurse+solids to your baby, do you know the amount of milk she drink during nursing? I feel my boy is not keen into drinking anymore. I did what you had been doing and he is also not drinking at the last part because he is too full. But i wonder how i can squeeze in 5 milk feedings. I am still not comfortable of getting 4 milk feedings despite he had solids. His schedule is almost like your daughter.

  3. My daughter is a week older than your daughter and is on the same schedule you just mentioned in this post except I only give her solids at dinner right now. I'm wondering if Brinley sleeps up until the time you mention she eats? That looks like it would typically be 2.5 hours. I can only get 2 hour naps the past few weeks it seems which has been frustrating because she was doing almost 3 hour naps 2x a day then a short one in the evenings. Should I be ok with just 2 hours or keep trying to get them a little longer? Also you mentioned you waited to give her peaches, what would you have done if you wanted to give them to her before 6 months? Just curious because I make some baby food and now I'm worried I'm doing it wrong?! Thank you so much, your blog is awesome and so such a helpful resource.

  4. Laura Beth,You can definitely go to a four hour feeding schedule if you think she is ready for it.It is also okay to go off of EWS at night–it is pretty normal around that age. That is usually around when the fourth nap is dropped anyway.

  5. Blessed Haven,No, I don't know how many ounces she takes in. I am not sure how you could work a fifth feeding in if your baby isn't interested unless you did a dreamfeed and baby would eat without it disrupting night.

  6. Jeanna,A two hour nap is great–I would just be happy with that. For certain foods, they can't be raw for younger babies. So peaches needed to be cooked prior to six months old. You could boil–I would probably microwave. Older babies can eat them raw. I think peaches taste WAY better raw, so I just peeled them and made them that way and waited until she was six months old to have them.

  7. I have a 6 month old daughter. She is STTN 7 pm – 6 or 6:30 (trying to get her to 7 am). She has for the past month or more been waking after only 45 mins of sleep for the first two naps…then for the third nap she will 80% of the time sleep for two hours. I have tried shortening her waketime, that seemed to make it worse, extending the waketime sometimes helps, but not always…I've read through all your posts a few times on nap troubleshooting, but thought you might have some specific insight here? I know she should be taking two long naps and a short nap in the late afternoon, but when her first nap is only 45 min she goes down earlier for her second nap and usually is up from another short nap by noon! So She has already had 2 naps before noon. Then her 3rd nap starts at 1:30 or 2 and she’ll wake up at 4. It is then hard to keep her up till 7 bedtime. It seems she is getting the right amount of daytime sleep, but it is at all the wrong times. Any tips?
