Brinley Summary: Week 31 {7 Months Old!}

This is a summary of Brinley's 31st week; she was 30 weeks old. She turned 7 months old this week! I am doing two Brinley posts this week since I didn't do any last week with the BFBN week going on.

NURSING
Same old same old. Alls well.

PLAYING
Oh the grumpiness left us this week! She was super, super happy. Like, oozing with happiness. So great! She was content to play again and just a super pleasure.

Not coincidentally, I am sure, her teething left her. The little hole she had developed left and she is left without teeth. On the one hand, it is fabulous. Nothing strikes fear in my heart like nursing a baby with teeth. BUT it is also sad because she went through all of that pain with nothing to show for it. I just hope when it comes back, it can be less painful for her.

SLEEPING
One night, she rolled in the night. My husband went and rolled her back over, because you know how babies don't necessarily appreciate their feeding mother walking out on them. She was fine each time he did it--four times that night!

The next night, she did only once, but still not fun for anyone.

At the very end of the week, my husband remembered a sleep positioner we had purchased for Kaitlyn when she was a baby and had reflux (we used it in an attempt to help keep her on her incline). I can't find it on Amazon, but it resembles this sleep positioner. So we broke it out and used it and had NO ROLLING that night.

I didn't want her not being able to practice, though, so I didn't use it for naps unless it was a nap that needed to be uninterrupted.

LOVEY
I noticed that Brinley likes to suck on the sleeve of her sleeper while she is falling asleep. Well, that is fine until you enter summer and short sleeves. I decided I needed to steer her toward something else. She has always loved to chew on fabric and hasn't ever taken to her fingers or thumb. So I gave her a blanket to sleep with. She will chew on that sometimes.

She also has a lovey similar to this one that she loves. It is an elephant and she loves to chew on the nose.

SOLIDS
At the beginning of the week, we tried yogurt again. This time, I did Brown Cow yogurt in maple flavor. This is what I fed McKenna. LOVE! She super loves it. She has also tried the vanilla flavor and loves it.

At the end of the week, we tried cottage cheese. Um, no. She was so grossed out. I am not sure if it was the texture or the flavor, but I have never seen her so grossed out. She gagged and gagged. That will be something else I try out when she is older.

FINGER FOODS
I also gave her biter biscuits this week. She loves those also!

I have a baby Brinley's age (although was 6 weeks prem) and have loved reading your blog and getting some tips along the way. I have done BW from day one but because Honor was a severe reflux baby we didnt do CIO. She is still not STTN which is disheartening but we are sticking to it.

I have 2 ques about naps. What is your routine now that Brinley is older? How long is your wind down?

Also a couple weeks ago you mentioned Brinley was having noisy sleep transitions due to wonderweek. In a normal week does she not stir at all between transitions? Honor wakes up completely after 45min and will really struggle to go back down. I just wondered at what age this 45 min sleep cycle becomes less of an issue.

The cottage cheese part made me laugh....it's one of the few foods I couldn't get my daughter to eat as a baby and she still won't go near it at 2. The texture is so weird!

Carey,

Brinley's pre-nap routine is very fast. I hold her for as long as she will tolerate it and sing her lullaby. Some naps, she will be held for the song. Others, she really wants to get in her bed and leans for it.

I then kiss her a billion times :)--if she is in my arms still, I do it there, if she is in her crib, I lean over and do it there. She loves her kisses.

Then I tell her to sleep well and I love her and I leave.

As for transitions, I think she always stirs at transitions. I think pretty much all babies do. Some wake more than others. She isn't noisy anymore, so I am not sure exactly how much she stirs or not.

With your baby not having learned to self-soothe, it might take some time to be able to make it past the 45 minute mark independently.

Danielle, I actually don't think any of my kids like cottage cheese. Even McKenna, who pretty much eats anything. I find it surprising because I think in my head it seems like a kid food.

When you say nap is 9:30 & 1:30, is that when you lay them down, when you want them asleep by, when you start their routine for nap (diaper, kisses, etc...)? Love your blog BTW!

My daughter is 5 months old and she has recently started self-soothing for naps and bed by pulling a blanket over her head and rubbing her face on it. This concerned me for suffocation reasons. However, now that I took the blankets away, she is having a hard time going to sleep at all. What is your thought with blankets and loveys like the one you shared a link to? Should I train her to sleep without them or are they not an issue at this age?

Jenna,

Nap time listed is the time I aim to have her in her bed. I tend to start about 5 minutes before that time--routine seems to take 5-10 minutes. She is then typically asleep within 1-10 minutes of me leaving the room.

Unknown,

I had blankets like that in bed for both Brayden and Kaitlyn at that age. McKenna and Brinley were both still swaddled at that age, so they didn't have anything. I think in most cases, it is probably fine at that age, but I totally understand being worried about it, also. Go with your gut and what you think is best.

I have a couple questions! First, I haven't seen you mention what personality type Brinley is... I have a little girl who is 1 week younger than Brinley and she is a Touchy baby. I'm just wondering if she is also Angel like your last baby?
Second question is about the "biter biscuits" you mentioned. Are you talking about the Gerber graduates 'lil' biscuits? Or is there something else I'm missing. I remember biter biscuits with my son who is now 5, but I can't find anything in the store that actually says, "biter biscuits"... Thanks!

Stephanie I am not sure. I would say either Angel or textbook for sure. I find it hard to tell between the two with a Babywise baby. Kaitlyn was and is an angel, but I think McKenna is actually a text book. She is seriously a text book child in all aspects. it is hard to tell with a young baby who sleeps a lot, though. I will know better as Brinley gets older.

The biter biscuits are the lil graduates things. I checked the box. But they are the same thing. Just a different name--so far as I can tell.

Ok, so I think it's time to seek some help. I follow your blog and use the quick references ALL of the time. It has gotten us to 31 weeks (7 months) of baby bliss….well almost ;-) We seem to be having some issues I can't manage to solve on my own. We have twins with their own things going on so I will try to make this brief.

Our twins are bottle feed drinking anywhere from 18-28 ounces a day. Our feeding schedule is identical to yours but we feed 4T cereal prunes mixed in with 2.5T fruit breakfast, 5T fruit 5T veggies lunch, 4T cereal with 2.5T veggie for each baby. We started solids later at 5 ½ months. At this time we also stopped swaddling cold turkey. When we stopped swaddling they took 4 days and nights to get back into the swing of things. So this brings us to a little over 6 months but we still do use a sleep sack.

Leah (our girl) wants nothing to do with food unless it comes on a spoon. Sometimes I dread feeding her the bottle. Honestly, this has always been an issue she just doesn't like to drink?!?!. 3 weeks ago she started a nightly routine of waking at 2am and wanting her paci then it’s right back to bed. Waking again somewhere between 5-6am sometimes staying awake for an hour and a half or wanting paci and right back down. If she wakes any later then she is up till breakfast. Other contributing factors: her last nap is hit or miss (we do errands at that time) but otherwise naps are good, rolls over and right to sleep. It has been taking her an hour to fall asleep at night. She has discovered she can roll in her crib, take in and out her paci, kick to make noise and sings LOUD. So all said and done she is really only getting 10-13 hours of sleep which to me is defiantly not enough

Boyd (our boy) eats well and prefers his bottle which if fine by me! His issues are naps…he has decided that he only needs his morning nap and that is it till bed time (which he wakes up early from). I lay him down at the same time I do Leah checking on him every 15 minutes or so. He just rolls around and makes noises. So I thought I would try room darkening but am realizing I don’t like that idea because he needs to know night from day. He is completely exhausted and over stimulated by bed time. It also takes him an hour to fall asleep doing similar activities to Leah. Night time is ok for him. He doesn’t get up till 7:30 (usually). All said and done he is also only getting about 10-13 hours. Again I don’t think this is enough.

I am out of ideas here and really hope you can help! Considering taking the paci but my gut says it’s food related as well as not swaddling anymore but I don’t know how to fix it (swaddling is not an option anymore as they roll). Sorry my post is so long…with twins everything is just more lol!
