Brinley Baby Summary: 46 Weeks Old

During our Babywise Success Stories Week, I wanted to add in Brinley summaries. It has been a while, and her summaries are great success stories šŸ™‚ This summary is for Brinley’s 46th week. She was 46 weeks old.

NURSING

This has something of interest this week. For the first time, Brinley bit me while nursing. I wasn’t paying attention to her, she bit me, I said, “Ow!” in shock, which seemed to startle her. She hasn’t tried since.

I am now very interested to see how she continues on. Brayden bit me once, then never again. Kaitlyn never tried it. McKenna bit me CONSTANTLY it seems that last month and she often drew blood. My husband said I should quit nursing but I wasn’t going to quit before a year unless she led the way. It is dumb, really, but it was a goal I had and I didn’t want to be the one to throw in the towel on it.

I have realized the biting profile of the children has really been a wonderful foreshadowing to what my future held with them. Brayden might try something he shouldn’t, but doesn’t once he is told not to. Kaitlyn seems to never try things she shouldn’t. McKenna tries it over and over and over again. So now I wonder what Brinley has in store for me.

TEETHING

On a relatead note, Brinley was teething during this week.

SICKNESS

Brinley was also sick this week. It happened to be the day of my sister’s wedding reception. Why do kids seem to always get sick for big events!??!?!? So my husband stayed home with her while I took the other three kids.

SOLIDS

I decided to take a daring step and give Brinley some cow’s milk this week. See this article: http://health.usnews.com/health-news/blogs/eat-run/2013/03/19/how-and-why-to-introduce-allergens-to-your-infant

These new guidelines seriously have rocked my world. There have been such strict guidelines on what age each type of food is or isn’t safe, so to have it basically be that pretty much anything is fair game after four months old is just mind-blowing for me. I think this is what moms must have felt like when the recommendation went from tummy sleeping to back sleeping.

She liked the milk!

She also started sitting in a new place this week–you may recall my post on Facebook if you are on there. I got so tired of the high chair taking up space in our kitchen. It was always in the way. So I decided to buy this chair. I had originally planned to wait until she was done eating solid foods, but I decided the pros outweighted the cons here (it is easier to sit in front of a high chair than to lean over the counter to feed her). We went with the Inglesina 2013 Fast Table Chair.

SIGNING

I settled on teaching “more” next. She finds it amusing and doesn’t do it back to me, but she does get a look of agreeance on her face when I sign more and that is what she wants.

SLEEP

Sleep is great and normal. She takes two naps and sleeps 12-13 hours at night.

SCHEDULE

8:45–nurse with solids (fruit, cereal, yogurt, finger foods). Independent Playtime happens in this block.

10:30–nap

2:30–nap

5:00–nurse with solids (veggie, fruit, finger foods)

  1. Oh man! That biting stuff is rough… if your kids' pattern holds up, my little one will be like McKenna for sure! šŸ˜› Although she's been fierce from the hospital, so I wouldn't be surprised. The article is very interesting… thanks for sharing!

  2. Wow, that's an interesting theory about the relationship with biting and personality. My son was on formula from about 10 days old; he didnt' try to bite, but had a super strong suck and I couldn't take it. My daughter did great and never bit me. She's 21 mos old, so we'll see how it pans out!

  3. Thanks for sharing that article — it's definitely helpful as I'm introducing solids. Are you pleased with the Fast Table chair? We live in a tiny house with a tiny kitchen and we are CONSTANTLY shoving the high chair out of the way and tripping over it. This might be a great solution!

  4. Julie I LOVE it! It definitely isn't as easy to clean as a standard high chair, but I love the space savings for sure. And from the research I did, this chair is the easiest to clean of that type of chair.

  5. I know Angela. I only recently came to that realization of how much their biting me was a foreshadowing of the personality. Interestingly, what Brinley has done is totally in line with what my hypothesis is on what her personality would be like. She definitely isn't a Kaitlyn, but she isn't as far the other way as McKenna either. Of course she will be a "Brinley"–but she seems to be falling somewhere between them on the spectrum.
