This is a summary for Brinley from 18.5-19 months old.

SLEEPING

Her cold was gone during this time and sleep was back to great and normal.

EATING

The food dropping continues to be better and better! I can trust her with a plate or bowl now. Before this time, I really would have worried about her just dumping it all at once. With her food on a plate, however, she will slide it away from her. So she gets to feel the satisfaction of pushing food away when done without it having to go on the floor.

The next trouble I am having is that she loves to keep eating even when her mouth can’t handle it. She loves raw carrots, but she won’t just take a small bite (I cut them into slivers). She takes bite, bite, bite, then picks up the next sliver and bites that all in at once and continues the process until her mouth is much too full of carrots.

PLAYING

Independent play went back to good and normal.

Brinley is obsessed with playing outside. Absolutely obsessed. We have been having nice weather so she has been able to play outside. Previously, she has absolutely hated shoes. I am talking crying as though I had just taken her favorite treat away. But I won’t let her play outside unless she wears them. So guess who likes shoes now? Brinley!

NEW TOOTH

She now has all four of her first molars in.

CHARISMA GIRL

Brinley is very charismatic and good at getting what she wants from anyone. The other day, my dad dropped by to pick something up. Brinley came to him with her shoes. She had no socks on. He told her she couldn’t wear shoes without socks. She ran to her room and got socks. He was so impressed that her put her socks and shoes on. Then she told him “Side! Side!” (outside) and then vigorously nodded her head yes. He needed to go to the post office, so he took her along to run to the post office. He isn’t usually the type to get suckered into doing things, but she has him figured out. She asks for things so sweetly but with enough force it is hard to say no. I thought it was funny he took her to the post office because that has to be one of my top five least favorite places to go with children.

  1. So cute! My daughter is loving the outside too! We have been getting a mix of nice/warm weather.. then cold and wet. She asks to go out every day. But, unlike Brinley, she LOVES SHOES. She'll walk around in anybody's shoes. She gets so upset that they won't stay on her feet. She wants to wear shoes all day. She's gonna love dress up! 🙂 My daughter also does the mouth too full thing. It's scary. And my daughter insists on picking up her plate and holding it out to give to me when she's done. I wish she'd just push it away! 🙂

  2. My daughter is 18 months and finally really showing the signs to drop her am nap.. She usually wakes about 7 am and because of school for the olders etc i have to make nap time 1pm at earliest.. Eventually I'd like her to move it to 2 but assume it needs to start early when adjusting.. I am awaiting the long afternoon naps but right now I'm getting an hour maybe an hour and a half on a good day.. When she wakes after an hour sometimes she fusses but mostly just sits. I know this is not enough sleep for her age and need any advice! Her bed time is 715-730 osh.. Depending on how long the nap was.. Help a frustrated mama!
