Brinley Toddler Summary {21.5 Months Old}

This is a summary for Brinley from 21-21.5 months old.

SLEEP

I decided to start to test and see how flexible she could be with naps since summer is coming up. I have been doing her nap later some days and she has been handling it well. There isn’t really a good reason to do it now instead of trying it in the summer other than I am the type of person who likes to plan ahead. This way, I know I can plan an activity and know she can handle some flexibility rather than planning it and being worried if she will be able to handle it or not.

She does well overall. Something I have figured out about her is that she gets disobedient when she is tired. She is that way when it is naptime or bedtime.

EATING

Eating is still going well. Nothing of interest going on.

PLAYING

Everything here is going well, also. Brinley is enjoying playing with her siblings more and more.

SUPER MIMIC

This is an age when the super mimic really comes out. The copying is so exagerated and obvious that you really start to notice it and start to notice the things everyone else does that the child is copying.

HAIR CUT

Brinley had another hair cut during this time period. She loves to have her hair done and handled so she sits still very well during her hair cuts.

TEETH

Her eye teeth are still making their way in slowly but surely. She is handling it better than she was a couple of weeks ago. I feel so bad for the endless teething pain!

  1. Hi Val,I have a question regarding napping. I have a 27 month old. He has been an awesome napper and sleeper from 4 months. He moved to his one nap a day last year and it's been for about 3 hours on average. In March it moved a bit later for going down around 2/2:30. We had a few days of crying at the end of the nap that lead me to moving from 1:30. Now it has been 2 weeks of 1 1/2 to 2 hour naps but ending in screaming and crying. I don't let him try to calm down because he is so freaked out that I just get him up. I have tried to move his nap a bit later, as late as 3:30. And I have also moved it earlier to about 1:30. His morning and night time sleep times are 8:30pm and 7:30am, very consistent and happy. I have also tried to give him a bit of a snack before nap thinking he might be hungry. He's known as the "happy boy" and now this is making a bit cranky and sad. I'm really hoping he's not dropping naps all together as it seems so young. I have also thought maybe it's his 2 year molars but I can't see anything coming in and he didn't have any issues before when teething. Maybe a day of being sad but not over 2 weeks. I would love some thoughts on what else I could do or what might be wrong. I just hate seeing him so sad and upset and I feel like I can't figure out what's wrong. Thanks!!
