Check Me Out on Instagram

I have finally decided to join the ranks of Instagram. You can check me out here: http://instagram.com/chroniclesbabywisemom

I plan to try to share anything that I think is pertinent to parenting--the whole realm. I often think of little tips that make my days easier but they don't really ever make it into a full on post. This seems like a great avenue for those. We shall see where the road leads.

I have been reading post on your blog and I have a question. I decided to comment on your most recent post since my question is a combination of posts that I have read.
I did baby wise with my firstborn. Worked great. He slept thought the night at a young age and has been a good sleeper since. I did let the schedule rule me a little too much though and I didn't want to do that the second time around.
I now have a 4 1/2 month old girl. She is not doing so great. I spent the first bit of her life establishing a sleep routine but it hasn't been as good. She doesn't take great naps and she wakes up at 5 every morning to eat. I feed her, put her back down right away and get her up at 8. But she doesn't want to eat at 8 so it starts the day messed up. I have been cutting back on what I feed her at 5 and we are down to 2 oz. She goes down for the night around 8:30 or 9 and does a dream feed at 11. She should be able to sleep longer and no luck. Crying it out is hard because I have a two year old and she won't rock back to sleep. In addition to all of this her naps have not been great. She is still on a 3 hour schedule and needs to move to a 3 1/2 hr but when I lay her down she is tired and then she wakes up way to early so I end up feeding her at 3 hours instead if 3 1/2. I am loosing my mind and I am in need of advice! My life is not as consistent as when I had one and we are "out and about" more but I established a routine when she was born and I have a consistent awake and sleep time so I just don't know what I am going wrong. Feel free to email me is needed (brittandlauren@gmail.com)
And advice appreciated!

Lauren you sound like me exactly! I hope you get your question answered cz I'm keen to understand this too. Our little one also wakes at 330/430/130am and I give her a paci to settle her but it's happening every night... Our little one is 9wks and this has been going on since 5wks when we merged the 1-4am with 1 x 3am feed... So now I've just been trying to extend that 1 x 3am to 7am wake but she's currently at 530am and I continue to extend 15mins as much as I can. The trouble is she keeps waking all through the night...

Lauren, one thing I notice is that your bedtime is late. Try moving it up to 7:30-8:00 pm.

The trick is figuring out what the reason is for her not sleeping. Is she sensitive to disruptions? Some babies can handle some, some can't. Is she overly tired? Not tired enough? Does she need more stimulation? Less?

Could she be hungry? Going through a growth spurt? It could be the paci. That often causes disruptions to sleep if the baby spits it out and csnt put it back in alone.
