McKenna Baby Summary: Week 52

52 week old McKenna

McKenna’s last week as an official baby! *Sniff Sniff*

NURSING

A few days into this week, McKenna bit me and drew blood. Umm…yeah, that hurt. My husband proclaimed nursing over, but I was only 5 days away from her birthday and I just really wanted to make it.

I told him I didn’t nurse through the yeast infection recently just to give up five days early. Yes, I am stubborn…or is it goal-oriented? Either way, I continued nursing!

Yes. I made it to one year. Then we stopped. But that is a topic for next week’s summary…her pre-toddler summary.

BLANKET TIME

We had a significant breakthrough this week. I can now get up and do things and she stays on quite well.

We still do 10 minutes.

I think McKenna is not totally sure what isn’t allowed. She might think she can’t move in the least. It will take time for her to fully get that it is okay to move but she must stay on the blanket.

When she wants a toy, she reaches and reaches and then goes right back to her spot. I think it is cute to see her trying so hard to do what she believes is what I want.

TEETHING

McKenna had a tooth come through this week, taking her total to 5 with one pressing hard. The good news here is that she has turned into a great teether. Her first three teeth were hard for her, but the last two have been fine.

PICTURES

McKenna had her one year photos taken this week. At first, she cried and cried, which is very unusual for her. She has never done that. It took some time to get her calmed down, but we eventually did and got some darling photos.

One Year Old

Well, that does it. That completes her first year. It is such a bittersweet moment. I am really excited to get to the fun of toddler life–I just love toddlers and Kaitlyn is about to leave toddlerhood.

But it is sad that my little baby is no longer a baby! Her first year has really flown by. I honestly feel like it has been only a few weeks since I wrote her first newborn summary. She is such a joy to our whole family and we just adore her.

LOOKING FORWARD

I will be doing a pre-toddler summary next week for sure because a whole lot seems to happen that first week of a one year old. I am looking for input on how to go forward from there. I was thinking that maybe a summary every two weeks would be good? So a 12 month old, 12.5 month old, 13 month old, etc. Things just don’t change as quickly from this point forward, so a weekly summary might be quite boring sometimes–and I have lots of other posts waiting to be written.

Babywise schedule week 52

52 Week Old Daily Schedule

8:30 AM–wake, nurse, solids (prunes or peaches/apricots and oatmeal). This is when we do a bath (four days a week) and independent playtime. We then do sibling playtime.
10:30 AM–nap.
12:30 PM–wake, nurse, solids (green veggie and applesauce. Sometimes mix with blueberries or cherries). She then “helps” me put Brayden in rest time (which just means telling him to go) and Kaitlyn down for her nap. We then do blanket time followed by free play with me in the same room.
2:30 PM–nap
4:30 PM–wake, formula (sort of), solids (yellow veggie and bananas or pears). Then time with Daddy.
5:30ish PM–dinner with family. Finger foods and what we are having. Then time with family.
7:15-7:30 PM–nurse, PJs, story, prayers, bed.

  1. AT least a monthly summary, please?! My DD is almost exactly a month behind Mckenna and I just LOVE these posts… its so helpful to me! So do please continue :-)And hats off to you for the biting/continuing incident. My DD did that at 5 weeks and made a huge blister and I was DONE. I'm not as tenacious as you 🙂

  2. Happy Birthday McKenna!! My W turns one on Thursday. I started weaning him last week. He has a milk allergy and we don't go to his one year appointment for another week so in the meantime I am giving him whole lactaid milk and will continue with that unless the doctor tells me otherwise. He doesn't love it and I can usually only get him to drink about an ounce or two so I'm still nursing three times a day (morning/noon/night). A few people mentioned rice milk. Do you know anything about it or have any ideas of how to get him to drink more milk. As much as I'm ready to stop nursing I'm also sad so continuing on for a couple of weeks will be okay. I'm looking forward to the pre-toddler posts!

  3. We are two weeks behind you and I love these posts too! Monthly or bi-weekly if you have something to post, would be GREAT!! My son started rubbing/biting with his teeth about a month ago just on one side. I started putting him in the football position about every other feeding and it provided much relief. I am not sure why this occured just on one side, but anyway…Congrats on making it one year! Happy Birthday Mckenna!

  4. I need some advice! My daughter is 8 months old and she has started biting as well. I nurse in the mornings and right before bed because she concentrates better but during the two feedings in the day I pump and give her a bottle. Do you think that's okay? I would love to nurse her during the day but it's seriously every time she bites. :(. What do you think?Thank! Happy Birthday to your sweet girl!

  5. It's so interesting to hear what McKenna is up to, I would love it if you continued summaries every week! I suppose every other week/monthly will have to do. 🙂

  6. I would love a bi-weekly post! My son is 6 weeks behind Mckenna and I am anxious to see how you work her schedule once she is weaned. Will you now start giving her a sippy with milk at each meal or will you still do a "formal" milk session before the meals? Also, when will she start eating her dinner with the family instead of at 4:30 when she wakes from her nap?

  7. anna – i give my 15 month old rice milk. we started her on cow's milk when she turned a year, but had some constipation issues. we tried to adjust things in her diet, but nothing seemed to help. so about a month ago i switched her to rice milk from the advice of some friends. she drinks more of the rice milk than she did of the cow's milk, and her digestion has greatly improved, pretty much immediately. rice milk doesn't have as much fat and calories as whole cow's milk, and it doesn't have any protein. i'm taking my girl in for her 15 month physical this week, so i will be checking in with the doctor at that time to make sure her other nutrients are being met. hope that helps 🙂

  8. First Time Mom, that is fine so long as it is sufficient to keep your supply up. Not all moms are stimulted enough through pumping, but if you are, then great! If not, you could add a 5th pumping each day.

  9. jshrayber,I do milk with the meal, but I did it separately with Brayden–just before the meal. You can go either way.We do dinner for her before our dinner, but finger foods with our dinner. Once she is off purees totally, we will have her eat her whole dinner with us.
