Surprise Announcement!

Pregnancy announcement

I have some exciting news to announce. I am pregnant! I am 8 weeks along and due in August.

We have always planned on having (3-4) children if you are my husband and (4-5) if you are me. For a long time after McKenna was born, we wondered if we were done having children. Almost two years ago (so right before McKenna turned one), I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). It was something that came on for whatever reason after McKenna was born.

PCOS is a syndrome that typically means you do not ovulate and comes along with it many undesirable side effects. For a long time, I did not ovulate. During the whole course of the years, we prayed and prayed wanting to know if we were done having children or not and never felt fully confident in an answer in any direction. I tried to remain patient (it was very hard).

This last Fall, I started to feel anxious to settle this. My husband and I continued to fervently ponder and pray on the topic. We finally came to the decision to just try for a baby–but through natural means. My OB had already offered Clomid if I ever wanted it. We felt like drugs were not the right choice for us. We thought we would try to get pregnant for several months and if we didn’t get pregnant, we would call it done.

Much to our surprise, we got pregnant on our very first try. We were (and I am for sure still) shocked. The odds of me being able to get pregnant seemed rather slim. We know this was a miracle and feel fully confident the Lord wanted us to have another child.

It will be a whole different experience than we have ever had. McKenna will be close to the age Brayden was when she was born. We have never had a baby while having any other activities to take children to. Two of our children will share a room. We have always had spring babies, and this will be a summer baby.

Pregnancy is always very difficult for me. So far, I have felt pretty good. Very tired, and some queasiness, but no throwing up yet. I am hoping for an easy pregnancy–just one? Just one sounds reasonable to me :). We shall see.

This summer, we will welcome another child into our home (just one; I have confirmed through ultrasound 🙂 ).

I plan to do a series of posts on pregnancy–if you have any specific requests, please let me know and I will add them to my list!

  1. I'm so excited for you! I also have PCOS. My first baby was conceived through fertility treatment and when the topic of the second came up we weren't sure we wanted to take that route again but were realistic that it may be the only option. We decide that we would try until October then go back to the Dr. Well to our surprise I conceived in September and I'm due in June. McKenna and our first daughter are about the same age. You and this blog were such a blessing to me with my first. I feel blest again that our new babies will again be close in age and I can share the journey with you. Congrats!

  5. Congratulations! I read this blog when my son who is a 30 months was an infant, and applied BW with my 8 month old, too. It is much trickier to get everything together with an older and a younger child! Especially sharing rooms, that is tough. I hope this pregnancy and child give you good topics to blog about – you are an excellent writer and distiller of information!

  6. Congratulations! I was told I likely couldn't have children (for a different reason–advanced endometriosis). But when married, my husband and I decided to go ahead and try. We've had three in the 4.5 years we've been married. They certainly are a blessing!

  16. Idea for pregnancy post: Vitamins & Supplements.I'm having a difficult time finding reliable guidelines online. I see a holistic doctor for a thyroid condition that has been improving while under his care. He has me on a lot of supplements, which we have tweaked since I became pregnant. However, I just started seeing a new OB and she only wants me to take vitamins labeled "pre-natal." She said taking too much of certain non-water soluble vitamins can be dangerous for me and the baby. I got scared! For now, I'm doing just the pre-natal, omega 3, and folic acid like she advised. But I'm concerned that my thyroid will get all wacky like it did after delivering my first son…I have an appointment to see my holistic doctor in about 2 weeks. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

  20. P.S. Post ideas: preparing for the baby while pregnant, and kids sharing rooms. We will need our toddler and baby to share, so I'm nervous as to when to move them in together, especially as I don't want to disrupt either of their sleep.

  23. Yeah!!!!!!!!!!! I look forward to reading your pregnancy posts since I am pregnant too. Although I am 8 months along, so won't be sharing the experience for much longer. Isn't it amazing how the Lord knows the right timing before even we do? Congrats and I hope it is an easier one. The best things in life are sometimes the hardest though 🙂
