This is a summary for Brinley’s 38th week. She was 37 weeks old.

NURSING

Nursing is same old same old. It is good. I am pumping some nights, but not all. I seem to cycle. I pump a few nights in a row, then I don’t for a few nights, then I do…

SOLIDS

This week, I gave Brinley cheese. I just cut it up into little squares. She LOVES it! Super loves. It is her new favorite food.

We also tried one of those food pouches at church this week instead of spoon feeding her…HA! She didn’t know what to do, which led to me squeezing it into her mouth, which led to big mess. I guess it would be best to practice at home? What did you do to teach baby to eat from a pouch?

SLEEPING

Sleeping is same old same old.

CRAWLING

Brinley started crawling walrus-like. She uses both arms to pull herself forward at once. It is super hard (yes, I tried it). My older girls had a tumbling show off and they apparently do a move like this to help build arm strength in preparation for hand stands. She is getting pretty fast at it.

SOCCER

Soccer season is in full force. Brayden and Kaitlyn are playing. Brinley loves to be outside, but we have had a cold snap and every soccer game has been out in the very rainy cold. She doesn’t love that. The picture above is her at a game–not so pleased! I have found two good solutions.

One is to leave her in her carseat in her JJ Cold Bundleme. Then I put a wool blanket over the carseat and make a little cocoon. She also has a warm beanie on.

The best is to park so I can see the field and stay in the car with her. I just hold her on my lap and she loves watching from the car. Hopefully some warm weather can show up…

  1. They make little spoons that twist onto pouches and you can squeeze it right onto the spoon!! It is super awesome!

  2. After a few times of me squeezing a little into my sons mouth he quickly learned to suck it out. He has a bottle about 3x a week so he knows how to suck on a bottle already.

  3. My daughter is doing the same kind of "crawling" I call it the army crawl. My son never did this, just went straight to true crawling… is this something your other children did before really crawling?

  4. Stephanie,Kaitlyn army crawled (so an army crawl is alternating arms they use and basically crawling on the elbows and then also using the legs to help move self forward–but not on knees). She only ever army crawled. And she got super fast. McKenna army crawled before she moved on to real crawling. Brinley is different. She uses both hands to pull herself forward and just drags her legs behind her. Definitely not the most efficient form of crawling ;). She is sometimes getting up on her knees, though, so I think she will transition to a real crawl.

  5. I just LOVE reading these posts every week! My son is the exact same age as Brinley, so it is comforting to see they are on the same track for so many things! He is my first, and I didn't have a CLUE before he arrived, so it's great to have your blog to help me stay on track. THANK YOU!!!

  6. Brinley is so cute all bundled up even though she might not be having fun. My husband plays softball and my son likes watching the game and people at the games. He's almost 11 months old (my son!), and I've always had a hard time doing his schedule at the same time every day because he doesn't always sleep the same amount of time at night or for his naps. I starting trying to drop his third nap about a month and half ago, and it's been difficult because of that. He at least used to wake consistently at 7 or a bit later, but now he's waking at 5:30 or 6! I don't know why he started waking up early. And his naps are a lot shorter now also, hardly ever going longer than 1.5 hours. So I try to just not have a third nap, but if he wakes at 1:30 or 2pm from his 2nd nap, I know he's not going to make it to bedtime, which was usually 8 – 8:30 and has recently been 7:30 because of the attempted changes. All that's a jumble, but do you have any advice? You're so good at getting your kids consistent!

  7. Hi Valerie! First of all, thank you SO much for this incredible blog of yours… it's saved us more than a few times in the 10 months since my first son was born 🙂 I have a question about the amount of food that you have Brinley eating right now… just last week, we made the successful transition to a four-hour schedule (praise the Lord!), so he is nursing at 6,10,2 & 6, and I am giving him three solid meals a day as well, usually about 3 tbsp. of fruit/veg/cereal per meal. How much are you feeding Brinley per meal? I want to make sure that he is getting enough, especially now that he is only nursing four times daily. Thanks so much, Valerie! Really appreciate you!
