Brinley Preschooler Summary: 4.5 Years Old!

This is a summary for Brinley leading up to her being 4.5 years old. At the end of this time period, she turned 4.5.

SLEEP

Sleep continues on as usual.

EATING

Eating has been kicked up a lot. She is eating at least twice the amount of food as she usually eats, and it has lasted a couple of weeks! Major growth spurt going on.

PRESCHOOL

Brinley still loves preschool and she is looking forward to going to the “big school.” Preschool got cancelled a couple of times this month due to snow days and it reduced her to tears. She loves her teacher and loves her friends at school. Her teacher says she is a great student and has really taken a motherly role over a little girl who has a hard time being at school away from her mom. It is so sweet to hear things like that! As a youngest, Brinley is used to being catered to and watched over, so I love that when she saw someone else in need, she stepped up and supported her. It kind of surprises me, but I am thrilled.

Speaking of preschool, Brinley had her half-birthday celebration at preschool. She is my first summer birthday baby, so this is a new thing for me. I am still processing if I like it or not. Don’t get me wrong, I love celebrating the birthday and I wouldn’t choose to not celebrate it so that she can have it with her school friends. I used to feel sorry for summer birthday people, but after this I realized, she gets to make a request for a cake/cupcakes twice this year. And be celebrated twice this year. Probably not too bad of a deal.

It took her a while to grasp the 4.5 thing. She was thinking she was turning five…nope.

READER

Brinley is at a preschool where they teach reading skills. It isn’t something I worry about with a preschooler at all. I don’t spend time working on that at home with her. I will let her read a Bob book to me if she wants to, but I don’t push it. Even so, she is flying through the reading program.

Each Sunday, we have a tradition to play a family game. Two Sundays ago, we were playing Rollick (which is probably the family’s favorite right now). It is similar to charades. Our teams were Nate, Brayden, and Brinley and Kaitlyn, McKenna, and me.

Kaitlyn and McKenna were acting out a word. Brinley walked up by them, looked at the card with the word on it, then read it. It was a multi-syllable word and all. Ha! I thanked her and we went on to our next guess.

EMOTIONS

Emotions held about where they had been the previous month. She has her moments, but they are moments instead of a daily roller coaster.

GROUNDHOG SOLUTION
Multiple times a day, Brinley tells me how she hates the cold. She likes warm weather and she is done with the snow and below-freezing temps.

With Groundhog Day coming up, she was very anxious about the shadow thing. She wanted winter to end and spring to come. She said to me, “Why don’t they just get the groundhog out at night so he can’t possibly see his shadow?”

Winner!

She should be put in charge of the groundhog situation in the future.

DANCE
Brinley had a dance recital this month. She was a cutie. This is my favorite age to watch dance. They are hilarious.

GUINEA PIGS
Brinley is good at finding ways to entertain herself. One way she has found recently is to play with the guinea pigs. She carries one of them everywhere (the other is a scardy-pig). He seems to enjoy it.

FOOTBALL GIRL

My kids are all Steelers fans. It is my dad’s team and he has always bought them stuff to help sway them that way.

During the playoffs, Brinley randomly announced she was a Dophins fan. She now likes the Dolphins and Steelers equally.

The Chiefs (my team) and Steelers played each other in the playoffs. Brinley watched every minute of the game! I was so impressed. Literally sat and watched. Nothing else. I feel so proud.
