Drab to Fab

Okay…I don’t want to call any of us “drab”–but it rhymes, it is catchy, and sometimes it is true.

I thought it would be fun to share ways we like to keep ourselves “fab” rather than “drab.” Just because we are mothers doesn’t mean we can’t be fabulous!

Naturally, we will all have different tastes, priorities, styles, and so forth. We wouldn’t want to all march around the Earth looking exactly like each other even if we could. That said, I would love to hear from you the simple things you do to help maintain your version of fab!

For me, it is all about accessories. I am not super trendy (or probably even remotely trendy). I generally have no clue what is in style and what isn’t–okay I have some clues but I am definitely not one you would ask what the latest and greatest color is. I just know what I like and what I don’t.

I find I love accessories. I have mentioned before that I love earrings. I make most of the earrings I wear. I am not fully dressed for the day until I have my earrings in.

My latest accessory I have added to my life (years behind everyone else) is the scarf. I am loving the scarf right now.

I find I can take the same old outfit, add some earrings and a scarf and I looked like I put a whole lot more effort into myself than I actually did. Oh, and for a variety of ways to tie a scarf, I have liked this site.

Now your turn! What do you do? Any favorite make-up products? Any hair tricks? Any style tips? Please share!

Yeah, yeah, everyone's talking BB cream. I really love Olay's Total Effect's CC cream. Less expensive, works well, FAST way to look a little more put together and get lotion/sunscreen on my face.

Hi Valerie. I just found your blog and I'm really enjoying it and benefiting from the dialogue here. We have an 10 week old *precious* girl and we've been practicing PDF since the beginning. Thanks for putting this blog together! I'm totally with you on the earrings. Even if I have on my shoes and my purse on the shoulder, I don't feel complete without my studs. 🙂

I'm guilty of being quite drab, using for an excuse the fact that I have three children under three. Denim skirt, t-shirt, ponytail, and makeup if we're lucky. Looking forward to reading some ideas to (quickly and easily!) "fab" it up just a little.

I get caught in my uniform way too often (sweat pants, spit up stained t-shirts, and athletic shoes). When I do get dressed, I love scarves, tunics, riding boots, and leggings with chunky jewelry! Bubbles necklaces and bangle bracelets go with almost anything. 🙂 Loved this post, hope lots of friends post what their "style" is so we can all benefit! Shea

I'm loving skinny jeans, ballet flats, and bracelets right now. The hard part is keeping my baby and toddler from tugging too hard on the bracelets!

Because of this post I threw on a scarf and earrings to go out to run errands today! No joke.

Eyelash extensions. You'll never need mascara again!

I got this tip from another mommy friend who always looks rested and fabulous-even with two little ones under 3 right now. She turned me on to Benefit cheek tint and Mac concealer for those nights when the little one doesn't sleep so well. I rarely have time to get a shower, let alone make-up on, but I find that if I use these two products coupled with a quick splash of mascara and some chapstick, I look much more rested and together than I usually am!

When my baby was a new-newborn, and I was just back home, putting on my favorite earrings always made me feel like myself! Earrings are my fav accessory, for sure.

I'm rarely accused of looking fabulous and don't keep up with trends, so my ideas are kind of boring but…-I agree with your scarf idea – so simple but makes me feel instantly more fashionable.-Cute socks. Silly, but fun printed socks peaking out of my mary janes make me feel good.-Wear makeup. I don't wear makeup on a regular day, so eyeshadow or mascara (if I'm feeling extra special) really makes a difference.-Take more time to do my hair. I'm a wash and go gal with curly hair so I can get away with that on most days. Taking the time to diffuse my hair makes it look styled and curls better defined – puts a bounce in my hair and my step!

I always wear make-up, even if I'm at home in my PJs. 😉 A little mascara can do wonders for my outlook on the day. 🙂

There is a great program called Dressing Your Truth by a fellow Utahn, Carol Tuttle. It's fun and has helped me develop more of a personal style, well I'm still working on it, lol!
