Puddle Jumper Life Jacket {Friday Finds}

I have been seeing these things everywhere. On everyone. Really. Not just that every time we go swimming I see a child wearing one. I see 90% of the children under the age of 5 wearing one. And there goes my three year old, in nothing.

Being the way I am, I pretty much scoffed at them. My husband and I raised our eyebrows at the frenzy. If it is that popular, I want nothing to do with it. I know that might sound weird, but I KNOW some of you are the same way! Trendy. Blah. Trendy means it will be all the rage today, is probably worthless, and will be filling the landfills tomorrow.

But I have been humbled.

Our swim teacher asked if I had seen them. “Yeah….” I answered, hesitantly. Then told me they were amazing. She said you can’t flip in them no matter how hard you try. In other words, the child stays upright. She had one on hand and put it on Brinley. It worked!

Having a device like this is helpful when you are just playing in water and you have multiple children to watch. Drowning happens quickly, and this is a measure of safety. Many swimming experts also highly recommend you have your child use a flotation device when first learning to swim (not at lessons–just while playing). It helps children to feel confident in the water and not scared. And for us, Brinley is a very beginning swimmer with a sibling on a swim team and two others who qualify for swim team. They are strong swimmers. She can’t play like they can. This will help her be able to play more with them instead of on the sidelines.

Okay. I was sold. Plus I fully trust our swim teacher’s recommendations. If it is good enough for her, it is good enough for me. It is more than just the latest fad. It has benefits that are real. Brinley is the happy owner of the cute mermaid one pictured above. There are tons of fun design options out there. This post may contain affiliate links which won’t change your price but will share some commission.
