    I have a question about crying it out and napping. My daughter is 17 days old and I started putting her down for naps in her crib after playing a bit. She cries and cries and cries…it took her 45 mins to fall asleep. It’s now 9:45 and she’s due to eat again at 11. Do I wake her up to eat or let her sleep and wake up on her own? This is only day two of Babywise for us…nights are great but napping is awful so far!

    If my son ended up not getting much of a nap because it took him a while to fall asleep, I’d just let him sleep a little bit later (maybe 30 minutes) than normal so that he was more rested, but his schedule wasn’t way off.

    I have a question about sleeping through the night. My baby is now 12 weeks. We started babywise a month ago. He is doing good eating and napping on schedule mostly, but he isn’t sleeping through the night yet. I know babywise says at this point he should be extending his nighttime sleep. Should I let him cry it out in the middle of the night? Also, I wonder if he is not sleeping through the night because he is not getting enough during the day. He has been getting fussy while he nurses lately, so he doesn’t always finish a meal. Any advice? Thank you

    Shelfers, I might do 30 minutes pastr when she should get up, but not more than that. At this stage, you want things to be as consistent as possible in order to stabelize metabolism.     Katie,If you think he doesn’t need to eat in the middle of the night, you can try CIO. But also know that many babies who start BW from birth aren’t STTN at that age yet. Since you started late, he will likely do things like that a bit later. See this post for other options for dropping middle of night feedings:Early Morning Feedings Before Waketime: http://babywisemom.blogspot.com/2008/01/early-morning-feedings-before-waketime.htmlWith the nursing, are you sure he isn’t just eating faster? Most babies start eating significantly faster around 3 months. If so, that could be the reason he is fussy. I would also check into milk supply just to be sure.

    My daughter is 3 1/2 months old and about 12 pounds. She's a great night time sleeper (7 to 8 hrs through the night). We just got her on a longer night time sleep schedule about 3 weeks ago. She's never been a good day-time napper. I think she would nap one hour each eat, play sleep cycle, but lately she seems to want to sleep longer. Should I let her sleep longer than 2 hrs? And will letting her sleep longer than 2 hrs affect her night time sleep?

    Devin, you can let her go up to 2.5 hours, but don't let her go longer than that. So long as you get the correct number of feedings in for her, she should sleep just fine.

    Question – My baby will be 4months old in two days. He take four 2hr naps throuout the day and sleeps 11hrs at night with two feeding at 1am and 5am. Shouldn't he be sleeping through the night by now? We've been doing BW since 7 weeks. Do you think he isn't STTN because he's sleeping so much throughout the day? Should I lengthen his wake time throughout the day? He sleeps for 2hrs and is up for 1hr. That's his schedule throught the whole day. Help!

    Michelle, yes, I would take him down to three naps a day.
