Car Phone Charger
If you are driving a car, you will want a way to charge your phone. We have a couple of different devices we use in our cars. One is this adapter so you can plug an existing charging cord into it, and the other is a charging cord made just for the car. The exact charger you get will need to be compatible with what is available in your car. Know what you can plug a cord into. It will also depend on the type of phone your teen has.
Car Garbage Container
You need a way to collect garbage in your car. This is a popular option on Amazon as well as this one.
Car Trunk Organizer
I got this trunk organizer for McKenna when she turned 16 and started driving. She loves to organize and was really excited to have a way to keep her trunk more organized.
Car Air Freshener
A car air freshener is a great way to help a used car feel newer and fresh and clean! We like the new car smell from Little Trees.
Gas Card
We all know cas can be expensive. If your teen will be required to pay for their own gas, a gas card will be a very welcome gift!
Car Wash Punch Pass
If your teen likes a clean car, a punch pass to a local car wash will be greatly appreciated! This way, they can easily clean their car without needing to spend money on it.
Bluetooth Adapter
If your teen’s car does not have Bluetooth capability, they will love having a Bluetooth adapter so they can still use their favorite streaming service while in the car.
Sunglasses
Sunglasses are a good thing to keep in the car for those sunny days. Sunglasses that are intended to stay just in the car are a great gift for your new driver.
Car Detailing
Giving your child the gift of a car detailer is a great idea if you are buying a used car! If you find a good detailer, it can really make the car feel a lot newer. Ask your local friends and neighbors for good recommendations.
Windshield Cover
If you live where it gets cold in the winter, this windshield cover is super nice! You put this on your windshield and it prevents it from becoming icey over night. This saves time in the morning and it also ensures your teen is not driving with a frosted windshield. It does require the effort to be made the night before, though.
If it gets really hot where you live, a windshield sunshade is really nice for your driver, especially if they are parking outside.
License Plate Frames
It can be fun to get a licence plate frame that is unique to you. I personally have a Kansas City Chiefs frame. There are so many options out there! They have solid colors, floral patterns, bling, flags, teams, and so much more.
Car Cleaning Gel
If you have a teen who loves to clean or have a clean car, they will enjoy this cleaning gel. It helps get into tight and small spaces that are hard to clean.
Wallet or Purse
Once you start driving, you are required to take your drivers license with you when you drive! A new wallet or purse is a fun gift for this event. This is a small wallet we currently love at our house. A MagSafe wallet is a great option for something small and simple.
Keychain
Another accessory you suddenly need when you start driving is a keychain to hold your car keys! There are so many options out there to cater to your teens interests, needs, and desires. There are the bracelets, the paracord keychains, AirTags, Star Wars…you can easily find something your teen will like.
Car Safety Items
While car safety items are not super exciting, they are needed. If you live where it snows, make sure your child’s car has a windshield brush with an ice scraper on it.
You can get basic car emergency kits that include jumper cables, first aide, flashlight, and gloves. This is a bigger kit that also includes bungee cords, space blanket, reflective triangles, tire inflator, glass breaker, seatbelt cutter, tow rope, and more.
Car
Last but certainly not least is the car itself. There are many different ways to approach a car for your teen, so you will want to pick what works best for your family. Some people gift their teen a car that is their own. Some people require their teen pay for their own vehicle. Others buy a car that the teen can use while living at home. Still others go half and half on the cost of a car.
At our house, we have a car that my husband and I bought that is for the teens living at home to use. It has worked well for our kids since they are two years apart, so Brayden drove it. He and Kaitlyn overlapped where they had to share the car for only 2 months. Then Kaitlyn drove it. Then Kaitlyn bought her own car just before McKenna turned 16 and started to drive. Someday, Brinley will drive it.
