SLEEPING and EATING

Everything is good here! Sleep schedule and eating are all normal with no issues. One interesting thing about sleep is that she has start to sleep with a silk hair bonnet. She sleeps with heatless curls each night. The hair bonnet helps so the curls are smooth and not frizzy in the morning.

One interesting thing with food is that she is trying to learn to make more food independently and slowly add to her skills in the kitchen.

SCHOOL

School has continued to be great! She recently commented that she has really loved middle school. She was so worried about what middle school would be like when she was leaving elementary school, but she has had so much fun with no issues! This is not the experience for all middle schoolers, but it has been her experience.

When kids are in 8th grade here, they do some testing to tell them their aptitudes so they can make a plan for what they want to be when they grow up and take high school classes that are in that lane. I have done that with my 3 oldest kids.

But I didn’t do it with Brinley. I have seen how much kids change their minds through high school and sometimes even college. I honestly would rather she experience a variety of classes and subjects so she gets a better feel for her interests. I think a variety would be good.

ACTIVITIES

During this period she has had piano lessons (all year!) and has also had soccer season. She has loved soccer. She and her team have done very well and they have had a lot of fun.

SPRING BREAK

During this time, we had spring break. We actually had McKenna’s big “senior” trip (that we do as juniors) planned over spring break. We were going to Israel to view Holy Land sites. That was cancelled for obvious reasons, so we went to Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park instead. It was a lot of fun!

FAVORITES

Here are some of her favorites right now:

  • Ruffle socks – socks are always popular with teenagers. Right now, ruffle socks are huge
  • Pickleball Paddles – one of the things Brinley does the most with her friends is play pickleball. We own several sets of these paddles and love them!
  • Snap Hair Clips – these have emerged as a very popular hair item for girls right now. Brinley has these ones! They are great.
  • Makeup Brushes – Brinley got more interested in makeup during this time, so we needed to get her some makeup brushes. We went with these ones and they have been great!
  • Korean Skin Care – I am sure you know how popular Korean skin care products are. These toner pads from medicube live up to they hype. They make such a noticeable difference in teen skin!
