Daily life and schedule for a 17.5 year old teen girl. Here’s McKenna’s update at 17.5: starting senior year, her first part-time job, a busy summer of trips and camps, and her full school-day schedule from 6:40 AM wake-up to 10 PM bedtime.

This is a summary for McKenna from 17.25 years old to 17.5 years old.
SLEEP and EAT
Things have been pretty normal in this department. McKenna has always been high sleep needs and si very responsible about getting the sleep she needs. She started a job and that cuts into her ability to get the sleep she needs. So she is tired often and often takes naps to help with getting less sleep at night.
SCHOOL
School started at the end of this time period. She is now a senior! School is going well so far.
WORK
McKenna also got a part time job during this time period. She enjoys it in many ways. She enjoys having coworkers. She always likes friends and gets to make new friends. The only downside is being up late on school nights.
There are a lot of great things a teenager can learn from having a part time job. They can learn how to balance and prioritize their time. They save money for their future. They have some spending money for their now. We do not push or even encourage our kids to get jobs, but so far all of them have had a job at some point while in school.
PIANO
Piano is good! That is proceeding as usual with piano lessons. She also loves to play the guitar and plays that a lot.
SUMMER
Summer was super busy and super fun for her. She really went from thing to thing all summer long. It was pretty epic.
COSTA RICA
We were able to do her senior trip this summer. We usually do the senior trip junior year with our kids because senior year really gets incredibly busy. We had planned to take a trip to the Holy Land this past March, but that was cancelled for obvious reasons. So we pivoted and went to Costa Rica this summer. It was a lot of fun and is a lovely country to visit! I wrote about it a couple of weeks ago.
SCHEDULE
Most of this time period was in the summer, but summer was so different from day to day with all of the trips and camps she had. So here is the school day.
6:40 AM — Get up and get ready for school
8:00 AM — School starts. School, then track practice
5:00 PM — Get home from school. Work. Homework
10:00 PM — In bed
