Confessions of a Newbie Babywiser

When my husband and I were expecting our first child, I didn’t even know what “Babywise” was, but thank goodness a sweet friend told me about it weeks before delivering our son!

The first few months after his arrival were rough to put it mildly. We had issues with breastfeeding, I was recovering from a C-section, and our content little newborn was beginning to develop a witching hour and reflux. He was fussy, never took a nap longer than 45 minutes, and I was exhausted and trying desperately to get him on some semblance of a routine. I have to admit, it was tempting to throw in the towel on Babywise…after all, my baby never took long naps, was always fussy and gassy and most days our “routine” was nothing near consistent. However, I was determined to stick with it. My friend who introduced me to Babywise had a child who was sleeping through the night and taking long naps, so I knew it must work. I began reading Val’s blog as an additional resource to the book and got connected to the Babywise Google Group and that’s when I finally started to feel confident in Babywise. I received great advice, encouragement and support and those fussy newborn days started to wane.

Around four months, our sweet boy started consistently sleeping through the night and around seven months he consistently started napping longer. I would be lying if I said Babywise was easy, but it has been worth it! My son is now one and has been on a great consistent routine. He goes to sleep each night at 7:00 PM, and me and husband get the rest of the night to ourselves! We’re both well rested (and so is our son!), and our marriage gets lots of quality time. Parenting is so hard on a marriage, but Babywise makes it less hard. We are so happy that we heard of Babywise early on!
