Potty Training In Action

  1. My daughter will be 3 in a month and she does not seem ready, which is frustrating. We have tried a few times and basically followed the Potty Training 1-2-3 book by the Ezzos which is basically what you have outlined above. Now, my daughter does not wake up with a dry diaper 95% of the time and she does not care if she's in a wet or dirty diaper. Could she really not be ready at this age?? We have had basically no success. Do I just keep waiting? Is there anything I can do in the meantime to help encourage her?

    • You could try telling her that starting on her birthday, she will not wear diapers in the day anymore. Then count down and remind her. We did this with Brayden and he was just ready on his third birthday. Kaitlyn was not waking up dry in her diaper when we moved her to panties. She took about 3 nights and then she woke up dry with no problem. So sometimes they just need to to try.

  2. My daughter is almost 34 months old and I'm in the second day of potty training her (with one false start about 3 months ago, bc she was holding it too long). She seems afraid to go on the potty. I'm not completely sure what to do to help her go. She shows all signs of physical readiness and is a sweet kid who likes to do what I say. When she has accidents, she's standing up and looking down at the pee coming out. I think she's used to standing up while going so the sitting is different for her. I'm doing pull-ups for naps and nighttime. I know that she likes the comfort of her diaper for going potty. She doesn't mind sitting on the potty bc we read to her there. She'll stay for a while, then she'll get up and sometimes have an accident. The one time she actually peed on the potty was when I knew she had to go but I made her keep sitting until she couldn't hold it anymore. She cried bc it was hurting to hold it, and she cried when the pee was coming out. But I made such a huge huge deal about it when she was going that she stopped crying. But she's still uncertain about it bc she wouldn't go before nap. :/ not sure what to do. My plan is to keep going bc I'm so so ready and I really think she is too if she can just get the hang of going while sitting on the potty instead of in her panties on the floor.

  3. I would either just really pump s lot of fluids in her like apple juice or water– soemthing that will go right through her — so she has to go potty often. Or I would take a break and try again in a month or two. You can also try to figure out something that would really motivate her to really try hard to figure out how to pee on the potty.
