McKenna Child Summary: 6.5 Years Old

This is a summary for McKenna from 6.25-6.5 years old--3 months of her life.

EATING
Eating is all good here. She went through an obvious major growth spurt where she ate a ton of food at each meal for several days.

SLEEPING
Sleep is good. McKenna has always been a great sleeper. My observation last time was that if she doesn't get enough sleep, she argues with instructions more and that still holds true. An interesting thing once school is in session is that children can need more sleep at night because they are exhausted from the day.

PLAYING
Playing is good. She loves to play with Legos and make believe games. She mostly loves to do physical things like roller blade and climb her climbing gym

EXTRA CURRICULARS
During this time period, McKenna did swim lessons and gymnastics. She also tried cheer class over the summer. This time period covered partially summer and partially school. Once school was back in session, she added fall soccer and piano.

McKenna had a big decision this year deciding between cheer class or dance class. When it came time to really decide, she had a hard time deciding and really wanted to do both. I didn't want her to be overly booked so I told her she had to decide. In the end, she chose cheer. At this point, she isn't sure she likes that choice best. She misses her friends from dance and she super loves being on a stage, so I am sure when Kaitlyn and Brinley have a recital she is going to be sad about no stage performance. She can reevaluate and make the decision again in a year. It is hard when you like to do so many things!

HONESTY
Last time, I talked about McKenna having an issue with being honest and I hoped it was a phase. She has gotten much, much better. She isn't 100% truthful all the time, but she has improved and will usually quickly fess up if she has lied.

SCHOOL
McKenna is now in first grade. She loves it. Being in full day school has not been as wearing on her as it was my other children at first. She has a lot of stamina :). She loves school and loves learning. Things have been going well so far.

McKenna had major test anxiety--even more so than Brayden or Kaitlyn. This surprised me because she is far more of a happy-go-lucky type of a person. McKenna has the same teacher Brayden and Kaitlyn had in first grade. She was so excellent at helping them get through their anxiety, so I made sure she knew from day one that McKenna was the same and to a larger extent. She gets this frequently in first grade and just has mastered the art of getting kids through this anxiety and getting them through quickly.
