This is a summary for McKenna from 14.5 years old to 14.75 years old. A lot of times when I write these summaries, I can’t believe the child is as old as they are. Honestly with this one, I find myself surprised she is 14 and not 15! She is mature. She is in high school. It just seems surprising she is still 14.

SLEEP

Sleep is still good. McKenna is high sleep needs, but she isn’t a teenager who is hard to wake up or who fights to sleep in beyond what she should. I make sure my kids can all wake up with an alarm and they know that the expectation is that they will get themselves up each morning.

If they do ever oversleep (which is very rare), we will wake them up, but they take personal responsibility for it.

I start them on this during 6th grade year (our last year of elementary). I want them used to taking ownership over that part of their day by the time they are in 7th grade.

It is just a small step toward being independent and able to move out one day and have the skills needed to wake up on time.

SCHOOL

School has been going well! She is enjoying high school and doing well in her classes.

SOCCER

Soccer has been good! She finished up high school and had fun and is now back to club. They had a tournament in November and she had a lot of fun with them. She was supposed to have a second tournament in December and ended up being really sick and couldn’t go (more on that below).

One sad thing for her is that she got a concussion at the end of the season, so she missed the last couple of games.

PIANO

Piano is good! She is improving quite a bit. She gets frustrated, though, because she isn’t as good as Brayden or Kaitlyn. This makes sense since she is younger than them, but she still struggles with it. We are trying to help her be willing to put in the time and effort to practice to get better. Practicing frustrates her greatly because she hates to mess up.

Despite that, she did a wonderful job at her piano recital! As her teacher put it, it was exquisite.

SICKNESS

McKenna got very sick in December. She had the flu and was completely down for a week. She ended up needing two IVs to help out. She lost 15 pounds of weight (not water weight…legitimate muscle). She is still recovering from that but it is coming.
