This is a summary for McKenna from 28-29 months old.
McKenna is still eating well. She seems to be over the timidness with food she had last month. She wants to try everything. She is loving our food from the garden. Do you ever just assume your child won't like something so you don't even offer it? I find myself doing that sometimes, then I remind myself that McKenna likes everything and so far she does.
As for prayer, she now takes turns saying the prayer, which really has helped her be more reverent during prayer time.
Playtime is still going well. She plays with friends well and siblings well. She plays on her own well.
Learning time is starting to be more fun with her--she is getting more able to do things on her own. It is so fun to watch your children progress!
Sleep is good and there is nothing new or interesting right now. I am thinking about the need to move her to a big girl bed. I think we need to do this, like, today.
But I am torn because of beds. We own a toddler bed that we could use right now and use for free. However, I really prefer to just move to a twin bed. But that means buying a twin bed and a twin mattress. Really, within the year, we need to get the twin bed anyway. So I guess I just talked myself into it. I can be so, um...frugal?...sometimes. I think the transition will be smoother in the twin than in the toddler. I had better wrap this post up so I can start my online twin bed pursuing!
August was our busiest month yet. She did really well with the disruptions.
I have to tell you a funny story. One night, we went camping. We put McKenna to bed first like we always do. We then took Kaitlyn to bed a while later. Well, in retrospect I realized we did it right at transition time, so it woke McKenna up...and she thought it was time to get up. At 10 PM, she and Kaitlyn were still chit-chatting away. I told Kaitlyn to ignore her and go to sleep, which I am sure was hard, but she did it. At 12 AM, she was still awake. Brayden and Kaitlyn were sleeping while she yelled their names over and over to wake up.
She stayed awake until about 2 AM. Yes--2 AM. That is quite literally the worst night of sleep she has ever had in her life. She is the type to get her 12 hours once she is down, but Brayden and Kaitlyn were up at 7 and it woke her up. So my 12-13 hour girl got 6 including her power nap the evening before.
Wow! Good thing that wasn't our first camping trip because it might have been our last! We learned to be more mindful of the transition time. And we all took a nap the next day--even I.
Brayden is in full day school, Kaitlyn will be in preschool a few days a week, and that leaves McKenna and me as little buddies. I think it will be really good for her to get some one-on-one focus from me.
I plan to try potty training later this month. I plan to do the crib-to-bed transition. So it should be a busy month with lots of changes for us!
We have actually stuck to our summer schedule for cool weather.
8:00--Wake up and eat breakfast
8:30--Music time/learning time review
10:00--Walk or bike ride
4:00 or 4:30--Get up--or free play. I have cut TV out completely this month.
7:30--Get ready for bed
